With the magazine to help us/ helping us

    Hi,

I'm puzzled about the following sentences.

    1. With the magazine An Express Way to English to help us, we will improve our language skills a lot.
    2. With the magazine An Express Way to English helping us, we will improve our language skills a lot.

    In these cases:
Case A: We've heard that the magazine is helpful to some of our friends, so we bought it and before we start to use the magazine, I say to my friend: _____
Case B: After we've started to use the magazine to help us, I have a feeling that it's been really helpful so I say to my friend: _______

How should I choose answer for Case A and Case B ?

I guess the better answer for Case A could be 1 and the one for Case B could be 2.
But my friend argues that both are OK for both cases.
Who is correct? What are the differences between 1 and 2?

    Thank you in advance.

I think that you have drawn a correct but subtle distinction. But on the whole, I think your friend is right: people do not usually make such subtle distinctions. Both are OK for both cases.

I see a subtle difference in them. The first would be better before they started using the magazine. The second would be better after they started using the magazine. So I agree with you: A1 and B2.
