    Open or opened

Are both of the following sentences correct?

    1. If the cover is open, the alarm will go off.

    2. If the cover is opened, the alarm will go off.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Re: Open or opened

Yes. The first refers to a state - the cover has been previously opened. The second refers to the act of its being opened.
