    Titles

    Dear Tearchers.
I write Edward V but read Edward the fifth.
I remembered 'King Edward 1st, Son of King Henry 3rd'.
Does it mean that I can say Edward fifth without any article?

Most BrE speakers would use the article.

It's not "a mistake", it's how it is.

    Re: Titles

We write Henry III, Edward I, but we say Henry the third, Edward the first.

    Re: Titles

My mistake and most BrE speakers preference.
But why this exspression 'King Edward 1st, Son of King Henry 3rd'? It connot be a mistake,it's from somewhere.

    Edward Longshanks

Edward First was a tall man for his era, thus he was called Longshanks. He also had a fierce temper and this, along with his height,

From where? This is not the normal way of writing the names of kings.

    Edward Longshanks

Edward First was a tall man for his era,
'Edward First' appears to be written by someone who is not a native speaker of BrE.
