1. The preparatory work aimed at dismounting the fan was performed.
2. The preparatory work was done, with the goal/object(ive)/aim/intention of dismounting the fan.Which is better?

I think they mean exactly the same
.

Both sentences have the same meaning, but I don't like either of them. How about something simpler? "The preparatory work for dismounting the fan was performed."

Yes, You are right, Rover_KE, but I was afraid there would be too little space for the title in the header.

You don't need to put the while sentence in a title. Just calling it "The preparatory work" would have been fine. It's just so that we can easily differentiate between threads.
