    Red face Am I wrong?

    Hi!

It seems to me that the underlined sentence is not right.

    1. Protection of biological diversity targets not only the goal of conserving natural resources; the primary emphasis of development cooperation is placed on preserving people's livelihoods. It is the rural poor who are most dependent on biological diversity.

In my opinion, it should be changed like this. Am I wrong?

"the primary emphasis is placed on development cooperation for preserving people's livelihoods."

Thank you so much in advance.

    Re: Am I wrong?

I'm struggling with the first part, let alone the second part. Are you sure you copied it word for word as it appeared?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Am I wrong?

I think your amendment is a small improvement on a passage that remains a bit murky even after your change.

    What's with the ^^'s?

    Re: Am I wrong?

And you have been asked twice now not to use this symbol. Please remove it from your posts and don't use it in future posts.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Am I wrong?

If development cooperation is an outside force like aid, then the original would be better IMO. However, the whole sentence is a bit of a mess.

To me, it sounds as if "development cooperation" is an agreement to protect natural habitats from development. But the sentence is a mess, indeed.
