    Vocabulary Question

    Hello,

I would like to know what does "rubbish tip" mean in this context:

"The couple have told various stories that she was abandoned by a Bulgarian woman, or found on a rubbish tip but Mr Yannopoulos said it is more likely she is from Scandinavia."

    Is this a waste facility?

    Thank you.

Yes, you could call it that.

Yes, it is. Click here to view.

Note that a better title would have been 'Rubbish tip'.

    Extract from the Posting Guidelines:

'Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.'

In AmE we would normally call that a "landfill site" or just a "landfill".

    Re: Vocabulary Question

The phrase "rubbish tip" is becoming less common in BrE. The rubbish tip which was about ten minutes' drive from my house when I was a child is now officially called the "Recycling and Household Waste Site".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
