It's like luggage. You don't have one luggage or two luggages. If you have one piece of luggage, you have a suitcase. If you have one piece of equipment, you have a [whatever the item is].
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
