Dear all,

Do you say, "Thank you just the same" instead of saying, "Thank you anyway"?

I know the phrase is in dictionaries, but an American friend of mine from LA says he has almost never heard anyone say, "Thank you just the same." to mean "Thank you anyway".

So, I checked COCA and found seven matches, but I don't know if the number is large or small because "Thank you anyway", which sounds very natural to me, had only 15 matches.

Do you think it's fine for ESL learners like me to say "Thank you just the same"?

Thank you!

Thank you all the same sounds more natural to me, though I'd probably use Thanks anyway.

In my opinion, the expression is rather dated.

'Thanks anyway/all the same' are natural enough to this (elderly) speaker of BrE.

Off the cuff I would probably have said that "Thanks just the same" is standard AmE, but now I believe MikeNewYork and Tdol are right. I haven't actually heard "thanks just/all the same" for many years.
