    3rd conditional vs mixed conditional

    Hello,

Consider the given heading: What would have happened if....? This exercise is about third conditional.

    1. Dinosaurs hadn't become extinct.

Using the third conditional I'd say: If dinosaurs hadn't become extinct, humankind wouldn't have evolved the way it did.

However, is it correct to say: If dinosaurs hadn't become extinct, we wouldn't be alive.

The first example is third conditional (past unreal situation), but how is the second one classified?

    Thank you.

Yes. That's usually known as a 'mixed conditional' - as suggested in your thread title.
