    Quasars~~~as~~~

    The following sentence is wrong:
Quasars are so distant that their light has taken billions of years to reach the
Earth; consequently, they appear to us as they did in the formation of the universe.

BOOK: the part in green means "they appear to us as they appeared to us" , and this
is obviously logically wrong, so the sentence is wrong.

ME: I cannot understand " logically wrong", so I think the sentence is right!

What do the words " logically wrong" mean? Who can help me? Thank you!

They do not appear to us as they did (=appeared to us) billions of years ago, because we weren't around then - at least I wasn't!. What we see is the appearance of these quasars as it was in reality billions of years ago. They may well look very different today.

Logically wrong means "wrong because it's illogical".
Firstly, we weren't here at the beginning of the universe, so quasars couldn't have appeared to us then, hence they can't have appeared to us then as they do now.

Thanks and I have understood your words completely!

Please see the right sentence (supplied by that book):
Quasars are so distant that their light has taken billions of years to reach the
Earth; consequently, we see them as they were during the formation of the universe.

In fact, even if the sentence is right, it still conceals the meaning _______ the quasars look alike today or the quasars look very different today because they are too distant!

It does not conceal any meaning. It gives one piece of information.

    Thank you so much!
Yes! The quasars can't appear to us billions of years ago! Yes, it's too far for us, because humans didn't exist that time

    Hehe......one piece of information?
Let me think for a while ... ...Yes, I really made an excessive reading of that right sentence.
    It's funny and improper.
Thank you for rectifying my error!
