    Bear

I found a weird sounding passage:

    ( nytimes.com/1989/07/31/world/poland-to-end-rations-and-food-price-freeze.html )
"Instead, the Government will open up the market for meat, permitting stores to purchase supplies directly from farmers at whatever price the market will bear."

I looked up a dictionary ( learnersdictionary.com/definition/bear%5B2%5D ), but couldn't find a definition for "bear" would fit this usage. Could this be some sort of technical jargon?

No, it is a normal use of the word. In that use it means "tolerate" or "support".
