Before long, there was no one there vs.Long ago there was no one there.

Before long, there was no one there.

Long ago there was no one there.

The answer provided by the teacher is the second sentence? Why is the first sentence wrong?

    Thanks.

Is there any context? In my opinion, the first is more likely than the second, but context will make all the difference.

They are two good sentences with different meanings. Which of them is the 'answer' depends on what the 'question' is.
