    Jessie and Arnold kept smiling

Jessie and Arnold kept smiling and speaking the whole time Big Danny, Jessie's uncle, stayed at their place,......... they had broken up.

    1) on the off balance that he would never have found out
    2) so as he not found out
    3) making it unlikely that he finds out
    4) lest he should find out

What's wrong with number 3? ( I know that the correct one would be number 4. )

3 would only work if it said "... Jessie's uncle, stayed at their place, making it unlikely that he would find out they had broken up".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
