I confuse them.

such as :
He has written to me frequently since I was ill.
He has written to me frequently since I fell ill.

"He has written to me frequently since I was ill." means :
after I felt all right, He has written to me frequently.

"He has written to me frequently since I fell ill." means:
when I was ill
He has written to me frequently.

Am I right ?

If I change since into ever since like:
He has written to me frequently ever since I was ill.
He has written to me frequently ever since I fell ill.

Are they different? What does they imply respectively?

Thanks.
