Lost item

My question is :

Why can we say "missing items" but not "losing items" ? ( I know that "lost items" is correct) Or why not "missed items" ?

Because to a certain extent, "missing" and "lost" are synonyms.

The act of losing the item is short and complete, but they remain missing until they are found.
