    Punctuation

    Hello,
The source of my question is taken from this forum: punctuation (urgent) - WordReference Forums

Once a nonnative English has asked this question:

    Which one is better?

    1. Then I said; wait a minute, I want to go too.
    2. Then I said, wait a minute, I want to go too.
    3. Then I said: wait a minute, I want to go too.
Then, a native English speaker has answered it and said:
I would do it like this:
    4. Then I said, "Wait a minute, I want to go, too." or
    5. Then I said, "Wait a minute...I want to go, too."
    These are my questions:
Can't we really use ":" after the word "said"?
Can we omit "," after the word "go"?
Can we put only one "." after the word minute?

    Thank you so much.

    Re: Punctuation

You need to ask this question in the other forum.

    Re: Punctuation

In a sense, we and other language forums are rivals, though many of our members participate in at least some of the other forums. However, we all have the same aim - to help learners with questions about English.

We hope to win new members by offering a quality service, not by undermining the work of other forums. If you are not satisfied with a response from another forum, you should always raise the issue there. Only if you really believe that the answer you finally receive elsewhere is not correct should you check in another forum.

The same applies to UE. If you are not happy with an answer you receive here, explain why you are not happy. Another member may be able to correct the response if it was wrong - or explain to you why it was correct.

If everybody checked the answers received from one forum with the other main forums, we would all rapidly get bogged down in pointless repetition.
