    Conjunctions

    I have a two statements:

    1. He is wearing a suit, but he is not wearing a tie.
    2. The girl has a book, and she is reading it.

Are "but" and "and" conjunctions? If yes, what does the conjunction "but" does? It shows differences? What about "and"? What does the "and" shows?

    Thank you!

"But" introduces a statement that is in contrast with the first statement; "and" introduces a statement that is in addition to the previous statement.

One more question, are "but" and "and" conjunctions?
