1. In "Most U of A students(69%) have 4 or fewer ", does "U" mean "you", while "A" "Arizona"?
2. Does this '"Virginia Commonwealth University" represent a member of UK member countries?
3. I don't understand what image or impression this "a gloved hand with two fingers exteded asked" gives.

8)Today, many schools are trying a new approach known as "social norms marketing." The basic idea is familiar. When a teenager asks for parental permission to stay out because everyone is doing it.", the appeal is based on information about social norms. Can the power of social norms be used for health education? Many schools seem to think so. At the University of Arizona, an ad proclaimed, "Most U of A students(69%) have 4 or fewer drinks when they party." At Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a poster showing a gloved hand with two fingers exteded asked. "Do you want to grow up to be a daily smoker?"...

Thanks a lot! What about 3?

That would depend on which 2 fingers were extended.

Just for your information, even though we say we have 50 states in the US, 3 are actually Commonwealths by statute: Massachusetts, Kentucky and Virginia.

4. Pennsylvania is a commonwealth, too.

Doesn't "a gloved hand with two fingers exteded asked" represent a sick patient's hand with lung cancer?

When the teachers explained about "commonwealth" in the US, I thought it's still related to the relationship with UK, but it seems to mean "welfare" of the people, right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_(U.S._state)
This designation, which has no legal impact, emphasizes that they have a "government based on the common consent of the people"[SUP][5][/SUP] as opposed to one legitimized through their earlier royal colony status that was derived from the monarch of Great Britain.

I can't even picture what is being described, let alone tell you what I think it means. I can't understand how it would represent someone with lung cancer. Do cancer patients where gloves more than other people?
