    Why didn't you go out?
    1-He did not open the door for us to go out.
    2-He did not open the door so that we could go out.

    3-The door was not open for us to go out.

    4-The door was not open so that we could go out.

    Are the sentences 1-4 correct in this context?
    They are supposed to mean:
    We couldn't go out because he did not opeb the door/the door was not open.

    #1 and #3 are more natural than #2. #4 is not natural at all.

    None is as natural as "We couldn't go out because he did not open the door/the door was not open".
