    holding paws

    After the two cats were rescued from the fire, these lines go on.
    1. Does "holding paws" mean "holding each other's paws"?
    2. How is "look across at" different from "look at"?

    smoky night
    "The cats were together?" Mrs.Kim askes...
    ...The fire fighter nods. "They were so scared they were holding paws." ....But then she looks across at Mama. "Thank you" She says...

    Cats don't usually do that, but that would be my guess.

    "Looks across at" means "looks at".
