    I almost add

    1. Does "I almost add" mean "I was about to add but actually didn't"?
    2. If a cat is mean, does it mean it's naughty and trouble-making?

    "He's the color of carrots" I say, and I almost add. "and he's fat and mean". But I don't.....

    Yes, "I almost add" means "I think about adding it but don't". A "mean" cat is a "nasty" cat, one who is prone to bite and/or scratch.

    Your dialogue needs some work. Check your punctuation.
