Are these sentences correct:

1-Jane is your wife. She is not your child for you to tell her what to do.

2-Jane is your wife. She is not a child for you to tell her what to do.

3-Jane is your wife. She is not your child to be told by you what to do.

4-Jane is your wife. She is not a child to be told by you what to do.

5-Jane is your wife. She is not a child to be told what to do.

Gratefully,
Navi.

Jane is your wife rather than your child, you should not tell her what to do.

I am just a humble learner rather than a qualified teacher.

We are not really sure what you really want to say.

If you want to say that "Jane" is not an inexperienced person, then try this one:
Jane is your wife, she is not a child that you tell what to do.

If you want to say that "Jane" is not your salve to take orders from you, then try this one:
Jane is your wife, she is not your slave to take orders.

Are these sentences correct:

1-Jane is your wife. She is not your child for you to tell her what to do. Okay.

2-Jane is your wife. She is not a child for you to tell her what to do. Okay. No real difference in "your child" or "a child" in this context.

3-Jane is your wife. She is not your child to be told by you what to do. The "told by you" is awkward and unnatural.

4-Jane is your wife. She is not a child to be told by you what to do. The "told by you" is awkward and unnatural.

5-Jane is your wife. She is not a child to be told what to do. Okay, but not as good as your unwritten #6.

6. Jane is your wife. She is not your child to be told what what to do. Less wordy and using "your child" makes it completely clear that you are the one who should not be telling her what to do. #5 could be be used to rebuke you for, say, letting other tell her what to do.

***NOT A TEACHER***

Matthew Wai:

Please note this from Posting Guideline:
You are welcome to answer questions posted in the Ask a Teacher forum as long as your suggestions, help, and advice reflect a good understanding of the English language. If you are not a teacher, you will need to state that clearly at the top of your post.

alex_genius_20:

It would be better to wait for several hours (about 8-10 hours) before posting your response. Most learners who come here want to receive the answers from teachers/native speakers.

Please read my above post again. Is it okay now?

No matter whether anhnha is a moderator, what s/he said is reasonable, and we should be amenable to reason.

I don't want to say that I am better than any one. But sometimes, nonnative English speakers give better answers than native English speakers. The way he advises may upset others posts (unless he is a moderator). It did mine.

Okay, I'll tell you. The forum rules clearly state that if you are not a teacher, and you reply in "Ask a Teacher," you need to state that you are not a teacher. This moderator is not a teacher and my signature clearly states that. It applies to me too.

But you should not need a moderator to tell you that following the forum rules is a good idea!

Just put "(Not a teacher)" at the top or bottom of your post.

However the advice to wait for a teacher/native speaker to reply before venturing an opinion, unless several hours have already passed, is good advice.

Then you need to be less sensitive.

Yes, indeed, there are many non-native speakers who give excellent answers. There will always be times when you can find an answer by Person A that is better than Person B.

However, in general, people come here expecting answers by teachers or native speakers. A few very proficient non-native speakers have earned our trust and we don't mind at all when they jump in with what is a correct answer at least 90% of the time.

I'm afraid you have not yet earned that level of trust and the comma splice in your recommended response is just one symptom of why.

I believe anhnha did not mean to offend, perhaps a moderator should come here to adjudicate.

Just don't do it with others in the future. Every forum has some moderators and they are here for that.
That may upset someone. Let's not continue my friend.
Enjoy your posting.

A moderator did.

Alex, you are free to ask questions. You are free to ADD comments that clarify. At this point in your learning, I think your decision to refrain from answering is a good one.
