    correct usage

    Is it grammatically correct to say "He wasn't but a child..." or revise it to "He was only a child ..." or "He was but a child..."

    I have never come across this in the negative. "He was only a child" or "He was but a child" is correct.

    Please note that a better title would have been 'He wasn't but a child'.
