    carries marks

    Which is correct?

    Each step to your answer carries marks.
    Each step to your answer carry marks.


    I think if it is "mark" it should be "carries" and if it is "marks" it should be "carry".

    "Each step to your answer carries marks" is correct. The "carries" and "carry" refer to the "step", not the "marks". Singular "step" = "carries"; plural "steps" = "carry".
    I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....
