A designer's personal sources of creativeness

First of all let me clear this matter better. If I know which question is appalling and has two possible answer, I don't ask from you. Believe me. Please don't angry with me because I don't want to get your time. I just want to learn more and remove my confusion. That's all! (Let me say that if all the questions are reasonable, so what's the reason for making such confusion? I ask from you to eliminate my doubt! Thanks)

A designer's personal sources of creativeness, communicative ability, and problem-solving skill are intertwined with knowledge of technology and first principles. Engineering tools(such as mathematics, statistics, computers, graphics, and languages) are combined to produce a plan that, when carried out, produces a product that is functional, safe, reliable, competitive, usable, manufacturing, and marketable, regardless of who builds it or who uses it.

The word "it" in the passage refers to ..... .
    1. who
    2. plan
    3. product
    4. knowledge

    ME: 2 /Answer key: 4

In my opinion, the correct answer is 3. Someone will build/manufacture the product and someone will use it.

We are/I am not angry with you. It's just that we know that most of the questions and/or responses given in your collection are bad. I, personally, see little point in deciding which is the least bad option when we could be discussing real English. That is why I rarely respond in your threads these days.

If you think it's useful to you to post these questions, then carry on.

I continue because Freeguy can learn from our objections to the given answers.
