Ranks ... in terms of / is ranked ... in term of

    Hello to all,

    Is this correct?:

While Qatar and Bahrain are about the same population, and Bahrain has vast natural gas resources and Qatar has none, Qatar ranks 4thin terms of gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita (GDP (PPP) ) and Bahrain ranks 43th.

    Is this better?

While Qatar and Bahrain have about the same population and Bahrain has vast natural gas resources and Qatar has none, Qatar is ranked 4th among all countries in terms of gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita (GDP (PPP) ) and Bahrain is ranked 43th.

Also, I have some doubts about 'in terms of' and those parenthesis.

I have a feeling that there is a much better way to express this. Please help me find it.

In my opinion both of your corrections reflect professional-grade standards. If you are not a professional news editor, you could be.

However I don't have any problem with "in terms of" here. It is so common as to be indisputable.

Thank you. I feel honored sir. What do you think about usage of rank?

Like you, I prefer the passive voice, is ranked. The use of rank as an active verb has never appealed to me. It is a neologism that was not needed.
