    Joining sentences with "where"

I've been to Paris. My dad was born there.

    Is this sentences correct:
I've been to Paris where my dad was born.

Wouldn't is sound better with "the city"?
I've been to Paris, the city where my dad was born.

I'd put a comma after 'Paris'.
