line dividing human from animal moral capacities

Much of the argument in Primates and Philosophers revolves around the crucial line dividing human from animal moral capacities. De Waal emphasizes what we share with animals; the others pick out the differences, especially when it comes to our motives and intentions—things that experiments are unlikely to divine from a chimpanzee brain.
(Scientific American Mind; Vol.17.N 6.; Mind Reads)

Would you be so kind as to tell me whether 'human' is a noun here?

    Thanks.

'Human' and 'animal' in that sentence are nouns used attributively. They are effectively adjectives.

Have I understood you correctly that it should be read as follows: '[...] revolves around the crucial line dividing human moral capacities from animal moral capacities'?

    Thanks.
