    During his remarkable career

    What's wrong with this text?

During his remarkable career, Paul Samuelsson served as a magazine columnist, consultant to research organizations, advised two presidents, and lecturers on mathematical analysis on levels of employment.

By the way, the bold section sounds a bit iffy to me. But I don't what's the problem!

    Thanks.

The items in the list need to be parellel, i.e. same structure and tense.

During his remarkable career, Paul Samuelsson served as a magazine columnist, was a consultant to research organizations, advised two presidents, and lectured on mathematical analysis of levels of employment.

But if the other parts of the sentence except the"advised" part is to remain same, can we say: During his remarkable career, Paul Samuelsson served as a magazine columnist,a consultant to research organizations, an adviser to two presidents, and a lecturer on mathematical analysis on levels of employment?

Yes, but you need a space before "a consultant". I would change the last "on" to "of".

Why did you write A WAS ? Is it necessary?

    Re: During his remarkable career

Mike wrote 'was a' for the reasons he explained.
