    Gru's accent

    Hello.

I've watched two movies: Despicable me 1 and 2.
Gru (a protagonist) has a strange accent and I'm wonder what it is.
Maybe someone watched these movies too.

If you don't know what I'm talking about I can find an extract and show you.

    Boris.
Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

Not a teacher nor a native speaker.

    Re: Gru's accent

It appears to be an attempt at a Russian accent, which is common for fictitious villains since the Cold War (sorry Boris!)

    Re: Gru's accent

I would say "vaguely Eastern European" - symbolizing our mortal enemies, the Communists, in times gone by.
The actor, of course, is quite American and the accent is fake, not necessarily based on any specific language.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
