Had I not been educated in China

    Is this sentence correct?

Had I not been educated in China, I would have made an appreciable progress till now.

"an" should be omitted. "by now" is better than "till now". Regrettably, there are no rules for these thinghs .

But there are rules for spelling "thinghs" correctly! (Canadian English has always been my favorite! )
