    "if he is a day"

By chance, I stumbled upon the expression "if he's a day", which according to oxforddictionaries.com means "at least" when appended to a statement about a person's age. (Source)

I found that most curious a phrase and was wondering whether anybody knew about its origins?

We've discussed the meaning before on the forum but I have been unable to find a specific origin/etymology for it. It's not just used for age/day.

She's six feet tall if she's an inch.
There's a pint in there if there's an ounce.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
