    Point Into

I don't know the difference of into and to when writing this:

"He pointed into/to the hole in the ground."

I looked up this dictionary ( oald8.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/dictionary/point_2 ), which suggests that the verb point should only be used with at, to, or toward, but not into. What do native speakers think?

Unless he stuck his finger into the hole. I would use "at".

    I've rephrased my question slightly.

In the revision, it could go either way.
