    The mechanic was astounded at

The mechanic was astounded at his employers news.

    1. amazed at
    2. bothered by
    3. happy about
    4. perplexed by

I know that this is not standard. But I need your confirmation that both 1 and 4 are correct here. My first preference would be "amazed at" and the answer key went for "perplexed by".
    Thanks.

I would only give A as the correct answer. "Astound" has no connection with "perplex" for me. I think you've missed an apostrophe out of the word "employers".

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Amazed better conveys the surprise or shock of astounded to me.
