    Is this seat free?

Can I also say "Is this place free"?
I don't think it's correct, but I want to make sure I'm right.
    Thank you!

Then I would stick with "Is this seat free?"

If I got it right, "Is this place free?" is not wrong but it cannot be used with the sense of "Is this seat free / taken"?
    Thank you!

    Re: Is this seat free?

You could use place in some contexts, like a meeting, but seat would always work.
