    ----Believe----

Could you please teach me what is the real meaning of the following quotation:

"As I get older I seem to believe less and less and yet to believe what I do believe more and more."

Thank you so much for your help and time.

    Re: ----Believe----

As I get older it seems that I believe fewer and fewer things are true. However, the things that I do believe are true, I believe more and more that they are true.
As I get older it seems that I believe in fewer and fewer things. However, the things that I do believe in, I believe in more and more.

Does that help? As you can see, there are two possibilities with "believe". Your original gave "believe" but I have given the "believe in" version too. I think the latter fits better with the sentiment of the piece but I don't know what the original author was thinking.

Talking of the original author, please give the source of your quote.

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: ----Believe----

It seems obvious to me that if you start out beliving in, say, 10 things, and as you get older your belief in, say, six of those things declines, your belief in the four things that remain is reinforced. In my opinion, it means "The older I get, the less I believe".

I think that leaves out the second half - ... but the more I believe what I do (still) believe.
