Hello,

Should the word 'the Internet' always be capitalized no matter its position in the sentence?

Also, in the sentence 'Internet - an important means of communication nowdays' is it correct to use it without the article 'the'?
Thank you!

I don't capitalise it. It seems to be a style choice. Some publications insist on it being capitalised, some don't. For me, it looks very odd with a capital letter - it is not a brand name or a proper noun.

It needs 'the' when used as a noun ('I found it on the internet'), but not when used attributively ('I did an internet search').

Thank you for you answers. So in my example (the title of an essay) the article is compulsory?

Your title should be "The internet - an important means of communication nowadays". I prefer "communication tool" and I would probably say "in the 21st century" or similar rather than "nowadays".

I still capitalize "Internet", but many don't.
