Hello.

I'm reading well-known quotations by Abraham Lincoln and I don't understand these sentences:

1) Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.
I wouldn't say I can understand what Lincoln meant by it. Can you rephrase it?

2) When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad, and that is my religion.
I'm quite sure we must replace "good" to "well". What do you think? Why did he say it?

An extra question is: what do you think about punctuation? I drew a parallel between Russian and English and this punctuation seems completely wrong.

Be aware, I don't say Lincoln made mistakes. :-D
