Post 'run off of gas' vs 'run on gas'

    Dear teachers,

Do these have the same meaning?

We have a boiler/chiller system that is run off of gas.

Re: 'run off of gas' vs 'run on gas'

I have never seen 'run off' being used that way. Is it common?

Re: 'run off of gas' vs 'run on gas'

It's quite common. I would use "on" but we do also say that things run off batteries/mains/oil/gas.
