    some/certain

1-Some people travel to Spain every year.
2-Certain people travel to Spain every year.

Do either of these sentences mean that there is a specific group of people that travel to Spain every year?

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: some/certain

"Certain people..." relates more closely to "a specific group of people". It leaves one expecting that more information about that specific group of people will follow, as in "These people are very interested in Moorish architecture..."
"Some people...." is more general and generic, and does not raise expectations that more information about the "people" will follow; as in " Some people travel to Spain every year; some go only once in their lifetime".

I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....

    Re: some/certain

    Thank you very much Grumpy.

But it seems that in both cases we are talking about one set of people.

    Could we say:
3-Some people die every day. (instead of: Every day, some people die.)
4-Certain people die every day. (instead of: Every day, certain people die.)
5-A certain number of people die every day. (instead of: Every day, a certain number of people die.)

knowing that people die only once.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.
