Which one is the most common. If none, how would you say it in here?

"You will have to compensate for it" is unnatural and incorrect.

"You will have to pay (or give) compensation for it" is also common and correct.

I'm not talking about the title. I just don't understand why someone would only have to pay compensation if the breakage happens in public.

In the US, unless there is sign posted that says something to the effect of "You break it, you bought it" accidentally breaking a vase in a store would not lead to a charge.
