    Such as/suach like

    Hi once more!

What is the difference between 'such as' and 'such like'?

    Thanks

    Re: Such as/suach like

Why don't you try writing some example sentences and we will see how you think they are used?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

They try to develop their 'soft skills', such as initiative and decision making.

In this case I clearly understand that I should use 'such as', but I need to know why 'such like' doesn't suit here.

    Re: Such as/suach like

    Such as = like
Such like = similar [things] to something already mentioned.

I love citrus fruit, such as grapefruit and oranges.
I love citrus fruit, like grapefruit and oranges.
I love citrus fruit - oranges, grapefruits and such like.

With "such as", you are giving examples of something you have just mentioned. With "and such like", you are saying "the things I already mentioned and other things which are similar to them".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
