    Tenses

    Some question about tenses:


    "Throughout the years, as construction projects have gone on, on campus, we've occasionally run across a coffin. "

    If the present perfect tense in "as construction projects have gone on,....we've occasionally run across a coffin..." is changed to past tense:

    "as construction projects went on,....we occasionally ran across a coffin..."

    how is the meaning changed?
