    but alas.

    Hello.

    Does "but alas" make sense?

For example: We could win, but alas.

Under "but alas" I mean we didn't win.

    Is "alas" a common word?

    Thanks.
Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

You could say "We could have won, but alas, we didn't".

    Re: but alas.

It's not common in speech, but it occurs quite a lot in literature, magazines and newspapers.

    See alas.
