Which of the two sentences is more appropriate?

So I have some trouble distinguishing which of these sentences is right and appropriate.

    He has killed before!

    He had killed before!

Some answers and clarification would be very helpful.

Re: Which of the two sentences is more appropriate?

So for the second example the sentence would be something like this: He had killed before the incident in the factory.

Thank you very much for the quick answer!

    Yes. Also:

He killed a policeman last year. He had killed before.

Re: Which of the two sentences is more appropriate?

Could you give me an example with 'has'?

Can I say: He has killed a policeman months ago?

No. "He has killed a policeman" or "He killed a policeman months ago".
