Question Question mark after what looks like a question but not!

    Hello,

If I have a title on an article that goes like this:

    How to lose weight

Should I put a question mark after it or not?
I'm asking because it is a statement that begins with "how".
It really means: This is how to loose weight.
It provides answers rather than just placing the question.

    Same thing in:
He asked me how the weather was.
We end it with a period not a question mark because it is not a real question.

    Thank you.

"How to lose weight" is not a question.

"How do I lose weight?" or "How do you lose weight?" are questions.

Right - it's an "embedded question" which does not take a question mark.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
