Student or Learner
In the context of somebody describing a female film character:
"She/It looked like/as if she was from the past century".
Is it either the impersonal "it" or "she" (the woman)? Also, which one should be used: "like" or "as if"?
The use of "like" as a conjunction is considered a usage problem by many. Its normal use as a connector is as a preposition. In informal English, you could use either, but in more formal English "as If" would be the better choice.
