    Noun

In the sentence "He heard him muttering" Is muttering a noun?
In the phrase "Half-opened eyes" Is half-opened a noun?
In the phrase "rising poet" Could this be considered a compound noun as "dancing shoes", or is rising a noun functioning as an adjective to poet?
    Thank you. Fidelina

"Muttering" is a gerund, acting as a noun.
"Half-opened" is an adjective, describing the noun "eyes".
"Rising poet" is a noun phrase with "rising" functioning as an adjective describing "poet".

    Welcome to the forums.

Please note that we cannot help with homework.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
