    About present participle and gerund

    Hi!
In teaching, is it necessary to distinguish between present participle and gerund? or should we use the term of "-ing form" instead, please?

Are you planning to start teaching English?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Personally, I would teach the difference. The function of a gerund is very different from the function of a participle. In addition, your students will likely run across the words in other classes in the future.

Some people say it is necessary. Some others say it isn't. It just makes students confused. But the distinction between them is required in the textbooks in VN.

If your government requires learners to know the difference, then you must teach it.
