    cherish

    Hello.

One of my students wrote in her writing assignment:

    1. This pen is the most important thing for me.
    2. I got the pen when I was four-teen years old.
    3. It was my birthday present at my four-teen years old
    birthday.
    4. My mother gave me the pen.
    5. I was very happy then.
    6. So, I have cherished since then.

    My correction:

    1. This pen is the most important thing for me.
    2. I got the pen when I was fourteen years old.
    3. It was my birthday present on my fourteenth birthday.
    4. My mother gave me the pen.

(Well, actually, I think #3 and #4 would be better if they were put together: It was a present from my mother on my 14th birthday.)
    5. I was very happy then.
    6. So, I have cherished it/the pen since then.

Is the word 'cherish' in #6 used correctly? Could 'treasure' be a better choice?

    Thank you very much.

IMO, 'treasure' would be a better choice, but 'cherish' is certainly not wrong.
